Precautions for Oregano Oil consumption

June 2nd, 2009

Oregano oil is a natural remedy that fights against infections. It strengthens the immune system of the body. Medicals studies suggest that oregano cures several ailments. It is popularly used as a cure for bladder infections. It kills the bacterium and flushes it out of the urinary tract. It is frequently used in food items to add taste.

However, excess consumption of the essential oil can show certain side effects like burning sensation, toxicity and die off symptoms. The patient may show symptoms of extreme fatigue, dizziness, nausea, headache etc. It leads to severe irritation, if applied directly on the genital parts. So, make sure that you add coconut or olive oil to the oregano solution.

The fresh oregano oil is a very strong herb that has ability to cause side-effects. It can show adverse effects on the body. Hence, you should purchase adulterated solution to avoid harsh symptoms. Adding excess oils to the oregano solution decreases its performance and prevents severe ailments.

Hence, pregnant women are asked to avoid oregano oil. It is beneficial to consult a medical practitioner before adopting the natural remedy. Small children are also kept away from the natural oil. They are asked to avoid direct consumption of oregano supplements. However, you can prepare a diluted solution and apply it on the soles of the feet for absorption inside the body.

This natural remedy should be consumed in small proportions. You can increase the dosage slowly, if your body doesn’t show any ailments. However, remember to consume a glass full of water after the medication. This flushes the excess pathogens from the human body. You can also purchase oregano capsules, if you don’t like to consume it directly.

So, consume oregano oil with certain precautions so that it doesn’t lead to any side effects on your body.

What You Need To Know About Asthma?

June 2nd, 2009

Asthma is the most common cause for admission to children’s hospitals. Almost one in three children suffer asthma in Australia. When a child has a mucus discharge; inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis), ear or throat infection, the child is often routinely given a drug medicine such as a course of antibiotics to ’settle it down’ or, ‘dry it Up’. The medicine can often, in the beginning appear to succeed in reducing (the right word is ’suppressing’) the symptoms.

Because the foreign matter of putrid mucus and puss settles down and stops flowing, it does not mean it has vanished! Far from it! It is physically and biologically impossible for it to just ‘disappear’.

The symptoms settle because they are driven back into the body but the original cause not being addressed is still active in the organism so it is only a matter of time until the child gets a recurrence of the same symptoms. As this mismanagement continues and the symptoms are repeatedly treated this way and suppressed, the mucous membranes being affected will degenerate and become more active and reactive. It becomes a ‘weak point’ in the body.

Over time, the space of a few seasons particularly winters, the symptoms change to where a cough becomes part of the symptoms. This is also treated with medicines and cough mixtures in an attempt to stop the cough. After a few courses of medicine for the cough, often a wheeze will start and the doctor will pronounce that the child now has asthma. Then the child is put onto more and often stronger drugs such as antihistamines and steroids to again treat the presenting symptoms yet giving no thought to identifying and removing the cause.

Asthma medication has shown to contribute to increase the severity of asthma and actually contribute to asthma death. “The British Medical Journal reported on the high prevalence of asthma in Melbourne schoolchildren. (BMJ, 302, 1116-8, 1991.)

The prevalence of a history of asthma among 7-year-olds was 46% in 1991 compared to only 19% in 1964. Three percent of children with a wheeze during the past 12 months had used a bronchodilator such as Ventolin. The use of these drugs has finally come into question by the medical establishment to the extent it has been proposed that the overuse of such drugs may account for the increased severity of asthma and may have also contribute to the higher death rate from the disease.” (Barnes, P. J. and Chung, F. K., TIPS 13, 20-23, 1992.)

Many asthmatic children are tested to see if they have an allergy to something like dust mite, cats, dust or something minor like this. These things do not cause asthma! They can cause the body to react and produce symptoms, but let’s get it right here; they do not cause the disease.

Because the child’s system has been blasted (and that’s the fitting word that comes to mind with these modern strong drugs) for so long that the suppressed morbid filth within the body and the degenerated mucous membrane weaken the system to the extent is reacts to certain chemical substances. That is all! These reactions can certainly kill if the asthmatic’s medicines are not at hand but don’t think they are the original, underlying cause of the disease. Most often, certain foods are more responsible for causing asthma in genetically susceptible people than anything else. Below is just one account from hundreds of successful treatments for this condition.

I would like to share an article that was written by one of my past patients for Grass Roots magazine. Its content is a good example of the results that can be achieved by most asthmatics by correcting the diet and following a healthier lifestyle:

I had been diagnosed and treated as asthmatic since I was about 10 years old (I’m now 28). As a child I was treated with Brondecon and eventually placed on Ventolin inhalers. I carried my Ventolin with me everywhere and because I was sports minded I would constantly suffer from attacks that would leave me sidelined, recovering. I had heard of people who had exercised or outgrown their asthma. So every day, off for a 6 km run, Ventolin in pocket, I would go. The result? More attacks and increased frustration. I eventually took some advice and went to see a well-reputed naturopath who advised me I would be rid of asthma in no time. Nodding my head up and down in agreement on the outside, but inside my logical thinking mind questioning this man’s credentials with his so-called advice for asthma.

All the milk I had been drinking up like a good boy and eating all my crusts were, as I was to discover, the major cause of my so-called asthma. I found out I was intolerant to milk and wheat products, which were causing my asthma. I was immediately placed on a detoxification diet of carrot and celery juice for two days, then for the next five days a diet of sweet fruits, e.g., rock melon, honeydew melon, watermelon for breakfast, salad with plenty of greens (no meat, sauces, pickles, salt or pepper )for lunch and steamed vegetables for dinner (at least 3 varieties). I was also given mineral supplements to assist my body with other imbalances, wished good luck and sent on my way.

‘Who does this guy think he is,’ I thought all the way home, ‘a miracle worker. A cure for asthma. Ha!’ Deciding to give it all my best shot I stuck to the diet with my naturopath monitoring my progress with monthly visits over a six-month period.

I no longer carry my bulky little Ventolin inhaler around with me. Asthma! What asthma? This cure worked for me and I wholeheartedly advise anybody with a mild to serious case of asthma to see a naturopath. We don’t have to be sidelined in our favourite sport because of some ailment that was diet related, I do not advise you to ‘go it alone’ on this one, I believe you must work in harmony with your naturopath’s guidance. If I can be of any assistance please write. - Darryl Simmons.

I treated this man many years ago and his story speaks for itself. My experience has been the same for just about all the people who have presented with this condition. In most cases, apart from complicated instances where the patient has been on heavy drug medication for many years, the results are always the same. Positive!

Why? Because correct education is personal power! My motto is: ‘education not just medication’. I reveal the cause of the condition and show them how they can help themselves and effectively remove the cause and give their body a chance to do what it does best - and that is correcting and healing itself. I do none of the curing, I do not offer a cure for asthma or any disease. I do, however, offer education on the cause of health and show my patients, listeners and readers (my students) how to build it so soundly that disease will not be able to continue to exist. Building health destroys disease. I do not fight disease; I build health and let nature do the rest. So simple, so effective and so true.

Tips For Avoiding Heart Disease - From Heart Attacks to Atherosclerosis

May 31st, 2009

A heart attack is an all-too-familiar term that describes a condition that occurs when the flow of blood is cut off to the heart. A heart attack can cause cardiogenic shock if blood flow to the brain, kidneys, or other organs is cut off. The heart muscle is damaged as a result. The most common cause of a heart attack is a blocked artery, and this condition is called atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis disease is caused by a buildup of fatty deposits, called plaque, on the interior wall of the arteries. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, even though many people think that it is more likely to affect men. Over time, these deposits get larger, and can reduce the flow of blood to the heart. If the blood flow is cut off, then the person has a heart attack and required immediate medical attention.

Atherosclerosis can take a number of years to develop, and most people have at least some plaque on their arteries. Damage to the arteries caused by smoking, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol can cause plaque buildup. For this reason, adolescent heart disease is something that should be on your radar.

Coronary artery disease (”CAD”) is another term used to describe atherosclerosis. Symptoms include chest pain, fatigue, and swelling in the lower extremities. Age is a factor in this disorder as well. As people get older, they are more likely to develop atherosclerotic plaque in their arteries.

Heart failure, sometimes called “congestive heart failure,” is a condition where the heart isn’t strong enough to pump blood throughout the body. A person who has had a heart attack is at increased risk of developing heart failure. High blood pressure, an infection, or a heart valve disease are other causes of heart failure.

Signs that may indicate that you have heart failure include shortness of breath and swelling in the legs and ankles. The latter symptom can be traced to decreased kidney function causing fluid to collect in the lower parts of the body. If the heart failure is caused by high blood pressure, CAD, or a problem with the heart valves, it may be possible to treat the condition with medication. Reducing salt intake, losing weight, and reducing your intake of fluids can also help to relieve the symptoms of heart failure.

Another heart condition that you should be aware of is called an aortic aneurysm. This condition occurs when a portion of the aorta, the main artery supplying oxygenated blood to the heart, becomes weak. As a result, a portion of the artery bulges. If the bulging is large, it may cause discomfort in the abdomen, chest, or back.

Some people can have an aortic aneurysm and be asymptomatic until the bulging is quite pronounced. If the aneurysm gets too large, it may rupture. This is a very serious medical condition that causes internal bleeding, which can result in blood clots or a stroke.

The signs of a stroke include blurred vision, severe headache, and difficulty speaking. The person may experience numbness in the face and have a hard time following a conversation. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should go to the nearest Emergency Room for treatment.

Good health habits really start in childhood. A person who starts off eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and refrains from smoking when they are younger is more likely to continue with a healthy lifestyle through adulthood. Parents can set a good example for their children, and it’s never too late to start making positive changes that will improve your health.
